Living on a budget

Pinching pennies I say. Making your own clothes can be expensive now a days. Fabric is high and getting higher. About 30 years ago you could buy fabric for about 88 cents a yard. Now cheap dry rot fabric is $10 a yard. My favorite fabric denim is too high even at Wally world. So I have found a way to get around that.
I look for yard sales with old jeans in I recycle them to make skirts, dresses and hand bags. I also notice some Thrift store throw away jeans also. So I dumpster dive all the jeans I can find. I take them home and wash them and bleach and some good ole TIDE honey. They come out clean and fresh. I am working on a dress right now once finished I will post a picture.

Did you do that?

It  is amazing about the world we live in. I meet people everyday who see my sewing skills and are just amazed by it. They say " did you do that?"  Really. I had one one lady say when she saw my work she thought a white woman did it. Really I say. In this culture that we live in we have many skilled people who come and every shade of color. Why is it when a black women know how to do something it is an amazement. Look at Oprah people are just amazed at how much money she got. The amazement is the skin color. Next time somebody ask you if you did that say, " I shol did".

Sewing4dollars:My Passion for sewing.

DollarDays

If you have a passion for fashion I suggest you learn how to sew. When I was 11 years old my mother decided to start back sewing since I was going to be in JR High. That decision was the best thing she could have ever done. At that time I began to want to learn how to sew. I was always under my mother trying to get her to teach me how to sew on a sewing machine. She would not teach me how to sew on a machine but she taught me how to read patterns and sew by hand. My mother wanted me to sew by hand so I could understand how garments are put together. Because of her teaching I began to sew everything from doll clothes to making my undergarments. My creative side was awaken. My sewing passion began to grow and develop. My mother gave me a foundation to sewing and I began to build on it. Since then I have owned alteration shops and I am a sewing Instructor. My passion has turn into a income. I love what I do. Learning how to sew has to be your desire and drive. Yes you will make mistakes along the way but never give up on your desire.

Discount fabric great for making handbags.

I find great deal when I shop for bulk amounts of fabric.  When making handbags you need great fabric. Good looking fabric will add uniqueness to your handbags. This is what you want because it adds money to your pockets. But mainly you want to watch your overhead on spending when it comes to fabric. You need a good fabric supplier that offer great discounts on bulk amounts and shipping.  When I first started sewing handbags some of my customers would get into arguments over one handbag. So I decided to make 3 or 4 handbags with similar fabric patterns. This cut down on the friction between customers. Because I had a great fabric supplier I was able to order large bulk amounts of fabric to meet the needs of my customers. If my customers are happy I am happy.
